CONFERENCES In early July, 2007, CQL Canada offered a new conference experience as we brought together a unique blend of leaders and experiential exercises to explore quality of life within a community context. In addition to learning about multiple Community Life® perspectives, participants were part of a unique community learning experience. The exploration of community took participants outside the conference room to both real and virtual space - into the city of Brantford and into databases and information sets to learn about quality of life, Community Life®, and how to make collective decisions from different perspectives. With expert facilitators, participant teams learned how to extend the information gathering process to their own lives and the lives of people in their organization and to their community.
WORKSHOPS Guided Self-Assessment Workshop for Basic Assurances® and Shared Values Basic Assurances® detail the essential, fundamental and non-negotiable requirements for all service and support providers and poses the question, “What are the important health, safety and human security issues for this person?” Values drive organizational behaviors, and shared values shape organizational culture. We believe the Values are what cause organizations to move.
Plainfield Community Homes (a non-profit organization that provides a range of services and supports to adults and children with developmental disabilities) and Community Living South Muskoka (which provides support to over 350 individuals with a developmental disability and their families) have recently gone through a Guided Self-Assessment Workshop for Basic Assurances® and Shared Values.
The Self-Assessment workshop on Basic Assurances® and Shared Values is, in my opinion, the most powerful organizational learning tool on the market. When a group of staff and managers representing different service areas of the organization work with, and struggle through the Personal Outcomes Measures® and probes and begin to understand organizational priorities through a form of knowledge sharing, the very culture of that organization does change. This was a great workshop, worth every penny and has set us on a path of discovery, learning and continuous quality enhancement. - John Klassen, Executive Director Plainfield Community Homes
