The event will consist of 9 days of training broken into a 4-day module from August 5 - 8, and a 5-day module from August 18 -  22, 2008.  Participants must commit to attending all of the sessions as well as completing readings and other assignments between sessions.  Each participant is expected to apply their learning throughout the Institute to one or more persons for whom they provide services.

Participants are also expected to participate in follow-up activities to be determined during the Institute, such as e-mail discussions, quarterly meetings, workshops, etc.

Participation is limited to 65 people.  Thirty five spaces have already been sold.  Participants will be selected through an application process, based on:

  • Interest and experience in positive behavioural support

  • Experience as a trainer/consultant within your agency

  • Ability to collaborate in the design and implementation of positive behavioural support strategies

  • Practical plans for implementing positive approaches within your agency

  • Ability to influence agency policy and practice in adopting positive approaches

  • Support and commitment from your agency’s Executive Director.

Who should apply:

Program Managers, Direct Support Staff, Clinicians, Trainers, Self-advocates, parent supporters and others who want to better understand and interpret difficult behaviour, and to develop and implement strategies for people to live more satisfying lives.  In order to promote collaboration, ongoing support and successful implementation, preference will be given to partnerships of 2-3 people who will work closely together throughout the training event and afterward.  If this is not feasible, you may want to consider forming a partnership with neighbouring agencies.

A complete application consists of:

  • An Individual Application form

  • An Executive Commitment form

The fee for the complete 9 day workshop is $999.00 + GST (includes break refreshments and all materials).   Lunch is on your own (there are numerous eating establishments within walking distance). Participants are responsible for meals, lodging, travel, and incidental expenses.

Schedule:

Sessions will be 9:00 a.m. –  4:00 pm each day, except that one-day in each session will run until approximately 7:00 p.m.  All activities will be at the Great Northern Resort and Conference Centre located at 229 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, P6B 4Z2.
