The event will consist of 9
days of training broken into a 4-day module from August 5 -
8, and a 5-day module from August 18 - 22, 2008. Participants
must commit to attending all of the sessions as well as
completing readings and other assignments between sessions.
Each participant is expected to apply their learning
throughout the Institute to one or more persons for whom
they provide services.
Participants are also expected
to participate in follow-up activities to be determined
during the Institute, such as e-mail discussions, quarterly
meetings, workshops, etc.
Participation is limited to
65 people. Thirty five spaces have already been sold.
Participants will be selected through an application
process, based on:

Interest and experience in
positive behavioural support
-
Experience as a
trainer/consultant within your agency
-
Ability to collaborate in
the design and implementation of positive behavioural
support strategies
-
Practical plans for
implementing positive approaches within your agency
-
Ability to influence agency
policy and practice in adopting positive approaches
-
Support and commitment from
your agency’s Executive Director.
Who should apply:
Program Managers, Direct Support
Staff, Clinicians, Trainers, Self-advocates, parent
supporters and others who want to better understand and
interpret difficult behaviour, and to develop and implement
strategies for people to live more satisfying lives. In
order to promote collaboration, ongoing support and
successful implementation, preference will be given to
partnerships of 2-3 people who will work closely together
throughout the training event and afterward. If this is not
feasible, you may want to consider forming a partnership
with neighbouring agencies.

The fee for the complete 9
day workshop is $999.00 + GST (includes
break refreshments and all materials).
Lunch is on your own (there are numerous eating
establishments within walking distance). Participants are
responsible for meals, lodging, travel, and incidental
expenses.
Schedule:
Sessions will be 9:00 a.m. –
4:00 pm each day, except that one-day in each session
will run until approximately 7:00 p.m. All activities will
be at the
Great Northern Resort and Conference Centre
located at 229 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste. Marie,
ON, P6B 4Z2.
